This was a freelance project for Kingston's HyperX line of gaming peripherals. It was a single shot that required the whole VFX toolkit. The first step was to Matchmove the shot with 3dEqualizer, my Match Move software of choice. The modeling of the grenade and bullets was done in C4D. The smoke was done with Turbulence FD. All elements were rendered out of Cinema 4d.
The sonic wave emitting from his head was a combination of C4d and After Effects. Holdout geometry and animated spheres with a Redshift fresnel shader were used to set the basic look and feel of the effect. In After Effects, the renders were sweetened up, and distortion effects were applied to the plate. The final elements were all composited in Nuke
